Today, Class 1 had the pleasure of welcoming some very special guests as part of their history topic – their grandparents! The visit was a wonderful journey into the (not-too-distant!) past, as the grandparents shared fascinating stories about what it was like to be a child in their day. The pupils eagerly listened to tales of school life, playtime, and daily routines from years gone by. In addition to storytelling, the pupils had the chance to play traditional games that their grandparents enjoyed when they were young.
The pupils were bursting with questions, keen to learn more about the past. They asked about everything from the types of toys their grandparents played with to what school meals were like. The grandparents were delighted to share their experiences, and the pupils were equally thrilled to hear them. The morning flew by, and nobody wanted it to end!
We are incredibly grateful to all who took the time to visit and share their wonderful stories. Their visit brought history to life in a way that no book or lesson ever could, and it was a truly enriching experience for everyone involved.
On Monday 23rd September from 4pm-7pm, a drop-in meeting is being held at The Cluntergate Centre in Horbury. Yorkshire Water are inviting you to discuss major improvement works that started this summer to reduce storm overflows and discharges from Horbury Bridge Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) going into the river Calder to help improve water quality and reduce the likelihood of surface water flooding. It is open to all. I will be attending to discuss the increased traffic around the school and the implications for pupils’ safety - particularly due to the long-term nature of the works.
Finally, just a quick reminder that on Monday we are excited to invite you to our annual ‘Meet the Teacher’ event. We have scheduled two meetings, one at 15:30 and another at 17:00, so you can choose the time that suits you best, or attend both if you have children in different classes.
During these meetings, your child's teacher will share key information about the class. You'll learn about how we teach subjects like Reading and Maths, get insights into Home Learning, and discover more about our wider curriculum. There will also be plenty of time for you to ask any questions you might have.
Have a lovely weekend
