Horbury Bridge CE J&I Academy

HBA Choir - John Carr Birthday Celebrations

Yesterday evening the Horbury Bridge Academy choir, numbering just 10, performed for the celebration of John Carr’s 300th birthday. I have taken many choirs to events over the years, but I can honestly say, this was one of the best performances I’ve heard. The sound, precision and harmony delivered were superb and members of the audience were clearly moved by the wonderful display. The Mayor of Wakefield even took the time to say that it was the best he’d seen this year! Many thanks also to the choir’s parents who gave up the time to bring them along on what turned out to be a glorious Friday evening - much appreciated! I also must apologise as I delayed sending out the newsletter so I could get a photo of the choir performing...and I totally forgot as I was enjoying the performance so much!

Fanfare for a Coronation - HBA School Band Debut!

On Friday, May 5th, our pupils will come together to celebrate the coronation of our King. The school band, with their debut performance, will perform a fanfare, setting the festive mood for the day's events. Pupils will all enjoy a coronation picnic on the field, complete with bunting, balloons, and a delicious spread of food. It will be a great opportunity for everyone to come together and celebrate the new chapter beginning in our country's history. We are proud to play a part in this historic occasion and wish our King all the best in his reign. Pupils will be in uniform, so no need to buy anything special or new. However, I’ve just signed off on a LOT of gold resources, so I’m sure staff have got plans for some sparkle!

Y4 Tennis Champs

Horbury Bridge Academy created another sporting success story this week, with the Year 4 pupils winning the local tennis skills event against tough competition from other schools. The pupils worked hard and trained together as a team during the afternoon, developing their skills and strategy to become a formidable force on the court. Their hard work paid off, and they were rewarded with a well-deserved victory. The whole school is proud of their achievement, and we look forward to seeing their continued success. Well done, Year 4!

Junior Illustrators on the Way

Horbury Bridge Academy had the pleasure of once again hosting author Gareth Jackson this week. Gareth came to the school to talk about his latest book, which will be illustrated by some of our pupils. It was an exciting moment for the children to see their work in print and to have the chance to meet the author who brought their illustrations to life. Gareth spoke about his journey as a writer, his inspiration for the book, and the process of publishing. He also gave some advice to the aspiring young writers and artists in the audience. It was a great opportunity for the children to learn more about the world of publishing and to see the result of their hard work. We thank Gareth for his visit and hope to see more of his books in the future. While the book has not been published yet, we will, of course, let you know when it is available!

Coxley Woods

You know Summer is on the way when the Coxley Woods visits start, and it was Class 1 who kicked things off on Thursday. As you can see in the photos, they had a wonderful afternoon identifying the plants and animals they found. We look forward to more visits as the term progresses.
