Horbury Bridge CE J&I Academy

Staffing

This week we welcomed Kelly Calvert to our team as our new High Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA). Mrs Calvert will be working in all year groups across the academy and I'm sure you will all welcome her to the Horbury Bridge family when you see her.

Miss Painter has now returned from maternity leave to her reception class, and it is lovely to be working with her. She is also the academy's Early Reading & Phonics Leader. Mrs Thompson, who, I'm sure you'll agree has provided the best possible cover while Miss Painter has been away, will continue to teach the class on a Friday. During the rest of the week, Mrs Thompson will be supporting pupils in all years across the academy and, as you are already aware, she is also the academy's Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCo).

Lastly, Mrs Swallow, who has been working between Class 1 and the Office, has now moved to the Office full-time as our Office Administrator.

Residential

Following lockdown and due to the cost of living, residential trips have been difficult to book this year. We have recently secured a residential for Years 5 & 6 which will take place in June. This is the only residential that is happening this year. We will be reviewing residentials for 2023/24 and will let you know arrangements before the Summer.

NEU Strike action

Just a reminder that we will remain fully open on Tuesday 28th February and all pupils should attend school as normal that day.

Finally, it is not often that I write about behaviour in the newsletter, but I have to this week as I am just so incredibly proud of our pupils. The amount of kindness, support, respect for each other and general 'loveliness' I have witnessed this week has been incredible. From all of the staff a huge thank you and well done to them all - a wonderful group!

Have a lovely weekend.

Mr Tuddenham

Conversations About Life Online - NSPCC

Safer Internet Day 2023 was yet another success for the awareness campaign. The day really is so important, as is the continued discussion around this topic. Prevention is always better than the cure, and making children understand the internet better, is the best way to shield them from its worst excesses.

The NSPCC earlier this month published ‘Want to talk about it? Making space for conversations about life online’. The gist of the page is highlighting ways in which parents and teachers can have sensible, non-accusatory conversations about the online world, and their children’s role within it. It’s a great page for those who are considering having a talk with their children/pupils about the online space. To find out more follow the link below:
