Poetry and preludes...

Horbury Bridge Academy Band

If you were lucky enough to be passing along St. John's street on Tuesday, you will have heard the wonderful sound of the Horbury Bridge Academy Band! A whopping crew of 24 pupils were at the first rehearsal with all families of instruments represented. After an initial pep talk from Mr Fletcher, the band launched into two pieces - a Prelude and a Waltz. While we still have some way to go before a performance at the BBC Proms, the sound we produced was wonderful and it was such a great experience for pupils to play alongside each other...I right enjoyed myself too!

Poetry

On Monday, we held our Performance Poetry Competition. Classes 1,2 & 3 all performed a piece of poetry in the Church for the other pupils. The poems ranged from 'Unique' in Class 1 to the very famous 'Jabberwocky'. But, the winning performance came from class 2 with a raucous rendition of Journey Through the Stone Age. As the winners of the competition, Class 2 will now represent the academy in the Enhance Academy Trust final, which will be held virtually in just over a week's time.

Reading

We are continuing the development of our library space and as you can see from the picture, we have sprouted a new tree! We have finally organised all the new books too (apologies for the delay) and your child will have a new reading book in their bag this afternoon.

Sports Events

Following a COVID-affected year, the Horbury Pyramid sports competitions are back with our first event on Monday, which is Year 5&6 Tag Rugby. There are events for all year groups and a wide sport across the year, so hopefully, all our pupils will get the opportunity to represent the school.

Finally, many thanks for your support at the learning review meetings this week and the lovely comments you have left. The pupils have settled in fantastically well this year, are really enjoying the new curriculum and are a credit to you all.

Have a lovely weekend

Mr Tuddenham
