Harvest Time

Harvest Mass

This morning, as the sun shone through the stained glass above the altar, we welcomed a packed congregation for our Harvest Mass, led by Fr. Christopher. Over the past two weeks pupils from each class have been working with Fr. Christopher and Fr. Daniel, with Class 1 writing the prayers, Class 2 choosing the music for the service and Class 3 providing the readings, servers and a very talented bell ringer! Thank you to everyone who sent in food, which we will be donating to the local food bank. It was a wonderful service to celebrate Harvest.

Tag rugby

On Monday an intrepid band of rugby-teers made the trip to Horbury Primary School to take part in the Horbury Pyramid Tag Rugby Competition. Amongst the group were seasoned rugby players as well as those who were wondering why the ball was a funny shape! Following a hastily arranged training session with myself in the afternoon, we were ready! As it turns out, there was no need to be concerned as the team romped to a 5-1 victory in their first match and went on to win their group, and then made it to the final. Unfortunately, we lost 3-2 to an experienced team from Horbury Primary, but every team member did us all proud! Player of the tournament for Horbury Bridge went to Oscar for his quality distribution and a solo that was straight from the top drawer!

Office Administration Assistant

Miss Imbusch, our current Admin Assistant is leaving her role and the end of this week. I'm sure you will all join me in thanking her for her work at the academy. I am delighted to announce that, following our recent recruitment process, Mrs Swallow has been appointed to this vacant role. Mrs Swallow will continue to work with Class 1 during the mornings until we have employed her successor.

Have a lovely weekend

Mr Tuddenham

Safeguarding

Online Safety

This week, our focus is online safety, with some excellent resources from CEOP for staying safe online, as well as some practical advice for an incredibly popular platform - YouTube.

Jessie and Friends (4 to 7 year olds)

Earlier this year CEOP released their brand new website, Jessie and Friends for children aged 4-7, their parents and carers, which aims to equip them with the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to stay safer online. The website is interactive and helps children recognise worrying, upsetting or scary situations to reinforce the message to 'tell a grown up'.

You can check out the new website HERE and there is a parents' guide HERE.

Goldilocks - social media support

An old but still a very good resource for younger children, Goldilocks is a modern twist on the classic fairy tale for parents to discuss all things social media with their children. It is free (PDF download) and there is an activity sheet to go with it. This is a good way to open up those all- important discussions with the children.

You can download from the Vodafone website HERE.

YouTube Restrictions

YouTube (Google) have been updating some of their features over the last year and some of these changes are very positive. To help parents understand more about these features you can access 5 short videos (from YouTube) which cover the following:

Parent Allow listing (this is a fantastic new feature). Selecting content based on the age of the child. How to approve what your children can watch. Limiting screen time.

Supervised experience (the ability to set a filtering level based on the age of the child). You can access the videos HERE
