Young Leaders

The Young Leaders have reviewed the entries to their "Ethical Easter Bake Off " competition. In today's achievement assembly, they explained that as there had not been many photos sent in, they decided it would be fairer to give a prize to everyone who entered rather than just one per class.

Ethically traded boxes of Maltesers are now being enjoyed by:

Luke R, Ivan and Isobel B (Class 3)

Oscar, Martha and Ollie (Class 2)

Zachary (Class 1) and

Maggie (Foundation)

Virtual Parents Meetings

Time allocations have been sent out via email this week. If you have not already booked to speak to your child's class teacher next week, please speak to the office

Uniform Recycling Sale

Thank you for supporting our uniform sale which has raised over ÂŁ80 for school as well as giving a new lease of life to clothing which may have otherwise gone into landfill.

If you ever want any items, please contact the office to check current stock.

PE tops and jumpers and summer dresses have been particularly popular so please remember to donate such items of uniform when your child grows out of them.

Summer Holiday Club

Our school staff are hoping to run our summer holiday club again this year.

Before we can confirm this is going ahead, we really do need an indication of numbers to make sure this is viable and so we can beginning planning lots of fun activities including crafts, baking, forest schools and visits in the locality. Everyone is welcome, including Nursery and Year 6.

School Meals

As we plan and look forward to many more things in school returning to normal in September, we are taking the opportunity to review many of our current and previous procedures, including school meals.

We have begun by talking to the children about their likes, dislikes and ideas for any changes to school dinners.

It would also help us if you could give us your views as parents, both if your child has school dinners or has packed lunches.

Please fill in this short online questionnaire here : School Lunch Survey

If you receive certain benefits, your child may be eligible to free school meals and we would also receive additional funding to use in school.

Even if your child is in Reception, Year 1 or 2 where the government funds meals, or if your child didn't want a school meal, we would still get extra funding!

Any extra funding for school would be very beneficial so please do have a look at this form to see if you may be able to apply or contact the office for a chat.

Class News

Foundation Stage

A magical flying carpet arrived in our classroom on Monday morning, with a map rolled up inside it. Nathan explained "It's a map of the world. The colours are different countries."

Each week we will be visiting a different country, starting with England this week. The children learnt a little about our Royal family and afternoon tea which is sometimes served at special occasions. On Wednesday, we were lucky enough to have Mrs Jolly come and visit and teach the Nursery children how to make scones, learning the techniques of 'rubbing in' and 'rolling'. All of the children will take turns cooking each week, to make a type of food associated with the country.

Class 1

This week, we read the traditional tale of 'Jack and the Beanstalk'. We enjoyed planting our our own beans out in the sunshine and are looking forward to observing and measuring their growth over the next few weeks. I wonder if we might find a giant?

Earlier in the week, Year 2 went on a Secret Mission with CJ bear to develop their team working and problem solving skills. The children all worked really well in their teams and they passed the test as secret agents! We are now looking out for future missions.

In Maths, we have explored fractions: finding equal parts, halves and quarters. We loved using the dough to make shapes and find out how many equal parts (if any) we could find.

Class 2

Class 2 have started their new topic based on 'The Wild Way Home' by Sophie Kirtley. We met the main character, Charlie and have followed him on his journey through a multitude of emotions. Charlie has run away from home and the children 'stepped into his shoes' to write about his thoughts and feelings as he runs into his favourite forest to escape. They used their empathy skills to imagine how Charlie would be feeling at various points in the book so far.

The children have also continued their learning about plants and have been exploring how plants reproduce and what the specific parts of a flower are called and the job they have in reproduction.

In PE, the children have been thinking about the importance of warming up and why we need to do it before physical activity. They knew that they need to get the blood pumping efficiently in their bodies and stretch in order to not damage our bodies. They worked in small groups to create a fun and engaging warm up that they can share with the class in the future.

Class 3

It has been a difficult week in Class 3. On Monday, they were given the terrible news that they had to evacuate the Earth and move to a new, unknown planet outside our solar system. Each child was asked to bring two very special items to remind them of their home planet. We had teddies, photos, toys and even a pair of sunglasses!

Of course, this was all to understand the emotions that the characters in our new class novel, 'The Green Book', would have been having on receiving the same news.

In Science, the children became physicists and explored how we get day and night as we begin to explore more about our Earth and its place in the solar system.
