Yesterday, we celebrated World Book Day in style, and what a day it was! Instead of dressing as characters, pupils and staff came to school dressed as a word or brought a word with them – and the creativity on display was truly impressive. From ‘illuminated’ to ‘camouflage’ and ‘courageous’ to ‘chaotic’, it was fantastic to see the range of words and the enthusiasm that everyone brought to the day.
The event was a huge success, with pupils taking part in a carousel of reading activities in their house teams of Earth, Air, Fire, and Water. It was wonderful to see them supporting each other, working together, and sharing their love of books. The sense of community throughout the day was fantastic, and we hope the children came home inspired to explore even more new words and stories!
A huge congratulations to the four girls from Class 2 who competed in the West Yorkshire Cross-Country Finals this week. To reach this stage, they first had to qualify through the local Pyramid event, followed by the Wakefield round, which is an incredible achievement in itself.
The final took place at Temple Newsam, where they faced a challenging course, but they showed real determination and resilience. We are so proud of their fantastic performances and the way they represented our school. Well done to all of them!
Next week, our Year 4 and 5 pupils will be competing in the Quick Sticks Hockey tournament at Slaenger Sports Club. We are the reigning champions, so no pressure! We know our team will give it their all, and we look forward to seeing how they get on. Best of luck to everyone taking part!
As part of our World Book Day celebrations, every pupil planted a bean linked to Jack and the Beanstalk. Now, the challenge begins!
Pupils need to care for their bean and help it grow as tall as possible between now and the end of the Easter holidays. During the first week back, we’d love to see how they’ve done—so please send in a photo of the bean next to a ruler or measuring tape (no cheating!) to prove its height. The tallest bean will win a prize!
If your bean hasn't made its way home yet, let us know and we can send another...only one, though, as they are magic!
Enhance Academy Trust is running an Easter Attendance Challenge across all its schools, encouraging pupils to maintain excellent attendance in the lead-up to the holidays. Please see the details below.
Our school attendance is currently excellent, and we want to take a moment to say thank you. We really appreciate how much you value education and the effort you make to ensure your children are in school and ready to learn.
We’ve had a couple of enquiries about whether we’ll be running holiday clubs this year. Unfortunately, we’re not in a position to offer them ourselves, but we will be sharing information about local holiday clubs that families may find useful.
To start, there is a flyer at the bottom of this newsletter for Utopia, who are running clubs in Wakefield over the Easter holidays. Keep an eye out for more information on other holiday club options coming soon!
I hope you all have a lovely weekend and enjoy what looks like an upturn in the weather – fingers crossed for some sunshine!
Kind regards,
Mr Tuddenham
