Living by our Christian Values: Together in Faith, Hope and Love

4th December: Newsletter 12

Christmas

Whilst Christmas in school may be a little different to usual, we are trying to keep as many festive traditions as we can.

Performances

Next week, we will video music performances from Class 1, 2 and 3 so we can make a whole school Christmas compilation for parents to watch. On the following days, please send your child with something to help them look festive such as a Santa hat, headband, antlers, tinsel or Christmas jumper.

Tuesday 8th - Class 1 and Class 3

Thursday 10th- Class 2

The children do not need a full change of clothes, just something they can easily add to what they are already wearing.

Christingle

Our Christingle Service will take place on Tuesday 15th December at 10am. This will include Foundation Stage sharing the Nativity story and each class lighting their Christingles. The link to join us online for this will be sent out nearer the time and will also be recorded so you can view it if you are unable to join us. We will be having a collection to support the work of the Children's Society with children and young people. See the link: Where your money goes

Party day

On our final day of term, children will be having class based celebrations. Lunch will be individual portions of party style food and children will be able to wear Christmas jumpers to add to the festive feeling.

Santa

As all the children have been so good at coping with how different things have been this year, we have put in special request to Santa and hope he may be able to make a (covid-safe) visit to see us before the end of term!

Christmas Dinners

If your child is normally on sandwiches but would like to have a school dinner for either of the following special days , please inform the office via email enquiries@horburybridgeacademy.co.uk .

Christmas Dinner - Wednesday 16th December

Christmas Party Lunch - Friday 18th December

Christmas Discos

The children are now very excited for the discos and should have brought home their ticket this week. We will be using the same system to arrive and leave as we do on a morning and at hometime and asking children to handwash at the outside sinks which are connected to the hot water supply. When you drop your child off, please take their coat home with you so we do not have to store these in the hall.

Christmas windows

I'm sure you agree that our classroom windows are looking beautiful!

We think it is important to support our community and bring a little Christmas fun to others so we are taking part in the Horbury Christmas Windows Song Trail.

This is a town trail of 36 Christmas windows decorated on the theme of Christmas songs/carols as shown on the downloadable map or visit Handyman Supplies or Darling Reads for a paper copy.

Can you guess all our songs? Well done to all the children and staff who have made our building look so festive!

It was a Christmassy session for the Young Leaders this week. They made some decorations to brighten up the hall and prepared the Christmas Jumpers for resale. Thanks to those who have donated jumpers to be recycled. You can now view those for sale for just £3 on this link: Jumpers, simply comment on the photo to purchase.

Foundation Stage

This week the characters from our book ‘On the Way Home’ needed help fixing their aeroplane and spaceship. The magic story box sent everyone a builders jacket and a selection of tools so that the children could get to work being fixers. Outside the children built a beautiful new aeroplane and travelled to the moon. William Br pretended to float as he explained “There’s no gravity in space so you spin around and float.” In the provision we also added lots of small objects that needed connecting together such as the marble run in the water tray and the nuts and bolts on the builders bench. The children also used their problem solving skills to see how they could get a balloon rocket to travel from one end of the string to another. They worked out that the string had to be pulled tight and it had to be level or pointing towards the floor to travel faster.

What a super team of fixers and problem solvers!

Class 1

What a busy festive week we’ve had in Class 1!

We completed our learning about The Great Fire of London by engaging in some art work, layering tissue paper then adding silhouette buildings.

After that we were full steam ahead into Christmas- making cards, paper chains and then enjoying being scientists for a Christmas Science Day.

Class 2

This week we have introduced a new and more efficient way of working out multiplication calculations. For many this was a very tricky concept! With great determination and fabulous growth mindsets, everyone who was shown our new method got it! We are so proud of all the children for working so hard to master this new learning. Well done.

This week has been the first in many that all the chindren were back in the classroom. It's been fantastic to see everyone back together and getting on a a big family. This was evident in PE. Everyone has a gtreat time playing team games and having relay races.

Class 3

Class 3 have been very busy this week! They have researched and written biographies about war hero, Alan Turing. The children have found out about how this inspirational man saved millions of lives in World War 2 by cracking the German Enigma Code.

We were honoured to meet the brilliant Ally Sherrick, author of Black Powder, on Zoom. The children had many questions answered, learned what it takes to become an author and found out that our pronunciation of character’s names was a little off! The children enjoyed ‘meeting’ Ally and finding out insider information about her upcoming books.
