Introduction to Speaker Series
In our inaugural year, our speaker series will investigate climate change and environmental issues through an interdisciplinary lens. The series will explore the historical roots of anthropogenic climate change in order to inform our understanding of contemporary environmental issues and environmental justice. We will also investigate current environmental struggles through the lenses of activism and science, further informing our understanding of how a changing climate will affect our world.
This series is a cross-departmental effort, incorporating HM's departments of science, history, and English, along with the Center for Community Values and Actions (CCVA). In addition to sponsoring this event, these departments will also provide reading lists and facilitate discussions for UD students, faculty, and staff.
The turbulence in contemporary society we all confront today, and our school’s mission to “prepare a diverse community of students to lead great and giving lives,” underscore the importance of continuing to engage with these complex issues, as we help students understand and develop skills to navigate their futures.
As climate change threatens the world around us, Horace Mann is uniquely situated – with both the resources and intellectual capital – to be at the forefront of the fight. We hope these speaker series events will prompt both conversation and action to realize this possibility. The UD welcomes all members of the community to join us for these discussions.
