Drama in the Classroom

Syllabi

Grade 6 students in Drama focus on the basics of performing, working collaboratively, and creating original work. Students explore the 3 Actor's Tools; body, voice, and imagination. They use these tools to establish an environment, write and perform an original fairytale, and use voice acting skills to create a radio commercial. Grade 6 students learn how to step into the shoes of a character, create and perform a scripts.

Grade 7 students in Drama focus on the art of character. Students explore building character through improvisation games and scripted scenes, dive into understand character backstory, objectives, and obstacles through Mystery Theatre. They end the trimester creating an original character and writing a monologue. Grade 7 students learn how to analyze a script for information, connect classic and modern theatre, and write an inner or outer monologue.

Grade 8 students in Drama focus on infusing their own ideas into the world of drama. Grade 8 students start the semester learning the rules of improv and showing off their improv skills in a TheaterSports competition. Students focus the majority of the semester on creating a vision and directing original and scripted work. Additionally, Grade 8 students write, direct, and perform an original 1 Minute Play.
