Beginning with the class of 2026, students must have a 3.75 GPA to be eligible to apply. The four criteria used for membership are scholarship, leadership, service, and character. The student meets the scholarship requirements by virtue of having a high enough cumulative GPA, but he or she must further qualify in the areas of leadership, service, and character. Potential new members are evaluated on co-curricular activities, leadership, community service, teacher evaluations, and discipline records.
Juniors with a 3.75 or higher cumulative GPA are eligible to be considered for membership in the Spain Park High School Chapter of the National Honor Society in the second semester of their junior year. Seniors with a 3.75 or higher cumulative GPA are eligible for a second time, if necessary, in the fall of their senior year.
Students who have met the GPA requirements will be notified by email inviting them to apply for membership. In addition to an email invitation, students who qualify, and their parents, will receive a video further outlining the requirements and answering frequently asked questions.
Interviews are not part of the selection process. An anonymous five-member Faculty Council judges each Spain Park student based on his or her completion of the National Honor Society application, teacher recommendations, and the student’s discipline record. The application requires each student to give detailed information about his or her involvement in the areas of character, leadership, and service. It is highly recommended that students devote adequate time and thought to this portion of the application; it is recommended that a student have a parent review and proofread the document. A student’s final admission into the National Honor Society will be determined by the Faculty Council based on the applicant’s full portfolio. All applicants are notified by mail if they are accepted or not into the National Honor Society.
Once admitted, students must maintain at least a 3.75 GPA and continue to maintain the principles in scholarship, leadership, service, and character.
Juniors are eligible for membership during 2nd semester of their 11th grade year.
