The first paper presents a dual-band, dual-polarized reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) capable of arbitrary wave shaping beyond simple beam steering. This work was led by Moosung Kim and Geun-Yeong Jun during their undergraduate research internship in our labβcongratulations to both! The paper will appear in Electronics.
The second paper is a collaboration with the MIMI group at Hongik University (PI: Prof. Jung-Hae Lee). It reports a Huygens' metasurface-aided waveguide whose cutoff frequency can be arbitrarily reduced. This work will be published in IEEE Microwave and Wireless Components Letters.

2025-04-30: Our recent collaborative work with Metawave group at the University of Toronto (PI: Prof. George V. Eleftheriades) is now published in IEEE Access π. Here, we report a highly efficient, dual-polarized Huygens' metasurface that can double the scan range of phased array antennas without directivity degradation at broadside radiation.

2025-01-14: Our group's latest work got accepted to Physical Review Applied π. In this work, we propose combining the idea of baffles and integral equation-based formulation to precisely steer electromagnetic beams in full space, with near-perfect aperture efficiencies. Additionally, the proposed idea is applied to cavity-excited 2D impedance surfaces that do not require free-space excitations. Our group has been selected for the 2024 Young Investigator Award from the National Research Foundation. The grant will faciltate our research on the simultaneous generation and manipulation of terahertz waves via Huygens' metasurface-assisted leaky-wave antennas. We will be collaborating with Prof. Oh's group at the Univ. of Minnesota. Graduate students involved in this research will have the opportunity to visit the Univ. of Minnesota for at least 4 weeks per year, with our group providing support for associated costs. Our research group is actively seeking undergraduate and graduate research assistants who can commence their roles on March 1st, 2024. Our group places a special focus on artificial electromagnetic surfaces called "metasurfaces," a domain garnering considerable attention from both the industrial and academic sectors, including Samsung, LIG Nex1, Hanhwa, ADD, and ETRI.Β

2024-01-19: Our group's very first paper got accepted to Optics Express!π Β In this work, we combined nonlinear optics with metasurface-assisted leaky-waveguide antennas for simultaneous generation and manipulation of THz waves. This research was conducted in collaboration with Prof. Oh's team at the University of Minnesota.
