A MESSAGE FROM CATHY CLAYTON-WEATHERS...
I have been teaching Spanish 1A & 1B at Homer Junior High since the program started! In 1998, I earned my BA in elementary education with a minor in Spanish, and I earned my MA in School Leadership in 2009; both degrees from Olivet Nazarene University.
Teaching Spanish is the perfect occupation for me because I am able to use a world language every day, to engage with eager, young minds as well as continually develop and refine my teaching skills. Each day brings new adventure! ¡Olé!
A MESSAGE FROM LAURA COLLINS...
I teach Spanish 1A & 1B at Homer Junior High! I began my career as a Spanish 1, 2, & 3 teacher in the Joliet High Schools in 1994 after completing my BA in Spanish Literature and Culture at The University of Iowa. During my years in Joliet, I earned my Masters Degree in Education from St. Xavier University. For many years, I raised my 3 children in Lockport, IL while volunteering and coordinating the Art Appreciation Program at Butler Elementary School. In 2014, I returned to teaching here at HJH. I am a passionate language educator committed to the success and smiles of all of mis estudiantes.
A MESSAGE FROM SARAH
SHEIKH...
I teach Spanish 1A at Homer Junior High! I have taught Spanish 1, 2, 3, 3 Honors, and Etymology at the high school level as well as 5th & 6th grade Spanish at Hadley Middle School. I completed my BA in Education with a minor in Spanish at Benedictine University. I am currently earning my master’s degree in school counseling at Lewis University.
I love teaching Spanish to all of my students because I believe that language is an immersive experience which helps students appreciate and enjoy the culture, the arts, the music and the people instead of simply memorizing a language.
