At the end of January, Homer High School students had the privilege to see how their local judiciary system works at the Cortland Court House.
One of the many History electives offered to Homer students is: You and the Law, a course where students learn all about the law and different forms of criminal justice.
After getting approval from the principal, all of the students got to spend the day learning about the case and had the opportunity to experience the environment of a real court house.
According to the Cortland Standard, the specific case that they were going to see was a trial for Harold Young who was charged for stabbing his daughter’s boyfriend to death in 2021.
Class member, Adia Henkel, said: that she was “very excited about being able to have the privilege to go and see how the real thing worked.”
The teens had the privilege to spend the whole day there and to really immerse themselves in this process.
Overall this was an informative and fun experience for these students to get a look at how the law process works right in their own town.
