Homer Trojans football won the Section III Class B title against 2nd seed New Hartford at the Syracuse Carrier Dome on November 13, 2021.
Heading into the sectional final undefeated, Homer and New Hartford were about to have a game to remember. Both teams wanted that title with fiery passions. At half-time, the game was tied at 14-14. The Trojans and Spartans were in fierce gridlock, neither team wishing to allow another touchdown in their end zone.
In the final quarter, with the clock ticking down, Homer pulled ahead to 34-20, (sealing their Sectional win since 2017), and thereby winning the title!
Homer’s touchdowns were led by Sam Sorenson (2 rushing touchdowns), David Morse (1 rushing touchdown), Logan Peck (1 rushing touchdown), and Will Dady (1 touchdown reception pass from Jake Calabro).
Spectators noticed that the game shifted to the Trojans favor when Dady caught a Hail Mary pass from Calabro around the fifty yard line. Dady juked out a New Hartford defender, speeding by him at top speed, catching a perfect spiral from Calabro, and sprinting into the touchdown zone with hyper determination.
After this play, Dady remarked: “We knew then and there that we were going to win. This catch was when the team knew deep down that the game was ours, and ultimately, the title. I’m really proud of everybody on the team; we played our hearts out and ultimately caught the fat dub!”
Morse agreed, saying that “This game was a tough one to begin with, but we were confident in our abilities and our training. We knew we would pull off the dub. It was only a matter of time.”
Spirits high after such a momentous win, the Trojans were elated when they received a warm village welcome from the police and fire department. Sirens and honking echoed throughout Homer, bringing smiles to the faces of the exhausted, yet jubilant Homer Trojans.
