As September 11 approaches, it is important for people to remember those lost to the infamous terrorist attack 18 years ago.
Homer participated in commemorating the people lost to the 9/11 bombing with a few meaningful words from Principal VanEtten and a moment of silence during the morning announcements. Principal VanEtten urged staff and students to remember the horrifying attack and to never forget the lives of those who were lost.
The Town of Homer also commemorated this day with a moving ceremony at the Homer 9/11 memorial. Located by the Fire Station on Main Street, firefighters, veterans, and community members gathered together to honor the thousands of lives lost. At the end of the ceremony, there was a moment of silence in which the police and firefighters saluted the flag as a single trumpet played.
It was a touching ceremony that perfectly commemorated the event, and that may continue to unite and touch the community in years to come.
