It Chapter 2

The sequel to the movie It does not fail to deliver. Living up to the first movie’s success as the top-grossing horror movie of all time, It Chapter 2 quickly rose to #1 at the box office.
The story begins with the members of the “Loser’s Club” all grown up and living their separate lives. However, it has been 27 years since they defeated Pennywise, and It is hungry for revenge. Pennywise begins another killing spree throughout Derry, mostly preying on children. This prompts the sole remaining member in Derry, to alert all of the members of the “Loser’s Club” to return for the final battle against It.
The movie had many ups and downs. First of all, it did not detract from the original storyline of the book, something that movies do all too often these days. The film generally followed the storyline as best as it could for time. However, it decided to focus on rather trivial matters instead of zooming in on decisive moments in the plot. Moreover, some of the action scenes are way too quick and over with. The movie also jumps around from scene to scene in a disorienting fashion, which makes the viewer confused.
In my opinion, you could not watch this movie without watching the first movie or reading the book. This is because the story is so intricate. As a result, this caveat could push some viewers away, as they would just be clueless as to what was happening.
Overall, I’d give the movie a 7.5/10. It was a nice way to wrap up Stephen King’s story of It, but given the time parameters, the director, Andy Muschietti, could have further developed the story. Fans will love to see how the first and second movies connect through time and continuity.
