As May 12th draws closer, many students are eagerly anticipating the Homer Senior High School prom. With only a week until the dance, upperclassman are in a flurry of preparation. Talk of corsages, boutonnieres, tuxes, and dresses float through the hallways as juniors and seniors hustle to their next class.
Prom tickets are being sold 9th periods during the first week of May, for $44 a person. During a rare lull of ticket selling, I was able to speak with the students who were planning the prom. The class of 2019’s Student Council, also referred to as the “Prom-Planning Committee,” is organizing the event. I asked them about the pressure of planning such an important night. Kendra Anderson responded, “It is definitely a lot of work. We have to make sure that everything is perfect, including lights, music, food, and even small things such as the table cloth colors. However, I think the effort will be worth it when everyone is partying on the dance floor, and I’m taking a break by the chocolate fountain.”
The event is scheduled for Saturday May 12 from 7:00 pm to 11:30 pm at Tinelli’s Hathaway House. The theme of this year’s prom is “Under the Stars,” and rumor has it that students will be dancing the night away under a beautiful starry night sky. A parent committee is planning the After-Prom Party at the high school, offering great prizes, cool games and activities, fun, and, hopefully, another hypnotist. I hope that everyone will attend this magical evening! Stay safe students, and I’ll see you May 12th!
