There was lots of holiday spirit at Homer High School’s annual holiday vocal concert on Thursday, December 14th. The choirs and the audience combined to sing the national anthem, Star Spangled Banner. The first group to perform was the freshman Chamber Choir. They started off with The Friendship Song (Pratelstvi) in Czech. The next song was Je le vous diray, a song sung in old French about gossip. And lastly, they sang a classic Christmas song, Feliz Navidad.
The next performance group, Women in White, had their debut while singing Flashlight from Pitch Perfect 2 by Jessie J.; they also created a wonderfully choreographed routine. Kaitlyn Clune and Grace Robideau both had solos in this piece. They also showed some holiday spirit when singing Mrs. Claus with solos by Emily Travis, Olivia Stockwin, and Kaitlyn Clune.
The Men in Black performed Cheerleader by OMI with Zach Apker on the trumpet and David Fein, Stephen Gilbert, Ethan Travis, Adam Brown, Rowan Travis, and Brenden Haskins with solos. They also performed A Holly Jolly Christmas.
Chloe Whittington and Julia Gustafson both had solos in The Boy From New York City, sung by the Blue Notes. They also performed When October Goes and Bailando with David Fein on the congas. Chloe Whittington and Adam Brown both had solos in their final song, I’ve Got My Love to Keep Me Warm.
Our final group was Concert Choir. Tessa Brown had a solo in Esto les Digo, their first song of the night and they also performed The Christmas Song with Jenniellen Withers playing the clave and Chloe Kuiken on the shekere.
For the final song of the night, as is tradition, all choirs combined and invited audience members to join them on stage in singing Hallelujah Chorus. Great job to all of Homer’s singers, and happy holidays!
