Have you noticed? The Homer football team is amazing! Recently, our players have been crushing it. They have been unstoppable, playing five games and winning every single one. Their 5-0 record has allowed them to take the number one spot.
The team played for the number one spot last week at Homecoming against Chittenango, a team with a record of 3-0. Homer beat Chittenango, however, with a score of 35-14, to take first place for the fifth year in a row. Earlier in the season, we had similar success. Our offense obtained several touchdowns per game, and our wonderful defense, in some cases, did not allow the opposing team to gain any points at all.
This success comes with a lot of hard work from the players, as well as the coaches. The team practices every day, six days a week. They practice the fundamentals of the game and work on offensive and defensive drills under the supervision of our amazing coaches, Gary Podsiedlik, Thomas Cottrell, Jim Whidden, and David Podsiedlik. All of them ensure each player exercises all of their skill.
Speaking of skill, there are some very talented players on the Homer team. Some of them definitely have a football career in their future. One of these talented players is Tucker O’Donnell, the team’s quarterback, as well as a safety and the kicker. During the second week of the season, O’Donnell was deemed Central New York Player of the Week. Dominic Natalie also received the same title this season during the fourth week. He serves as the team’s running back and defensive end.
The team has been superb to this point. This week, they are heading to Syracuse for their next game. It has been a fun year for the players so far. Coach Cottrell has commented on his excitement and nervousness for what is to come. Keep up with how the Homer Trojans are doing, and don’t forget to cheer them on. Good luck guys, and keep up the hard work!
