April is a crazy month; teachers are prepping for AP tests, spring sports are in full bloom, and the possibility of Spring Break is occupying ninety-nine percent of everyone’s thoughts. But within the hectic schedule of a student, I was lucky enough to spend time last Saturday (April 7th) at Homer’s annual Cabaret Night.
Every year, some of the most talented musicians gather at the Homer High School and showcase their favorite, and very impressive, skills to all those who wish to attend. The admittance cost was only $5, and there was a raffle in which the winner received half the money earned. All of the proceeds for this event went straight to the Homer Music Boosters, which wound up either into the Elementary, Intermediate, Jr. High, or Senior High School. Kindly, the winner of the raffle donated all of the proceeds back to the Music Boosters.
This year was by far my favorite. The age of the performers ranged from the 5th grade “Soul Singers” to a surplus of senior performances. There was also a refreshing variety of music and instrument performances, including the piano, clarinets, flutes, ukulele, and saxophone. I think really topped off the night was a sweet and surprising “Prom-posal” that occurred during, and after, a duet. One of the singers actually brought out a poster and flowers and asked an audience member to prom, which left the whole gymnasium “awe-ing.”
For the entire time I spent in a usually-sweaty high school gym, I was truly enraptured. The beautiful music, as well as the free food and the excited atmosphere, left everybody in that gym in a daze. Because of this, I want to congratulate the Music Boosters, volunteers, and musicians for the great event. Hopefully, there will be even more to turn up next year, as it truly was a wonderful event that you do not want to miss.
