For the first time in Homer High School history, student actors, singers, and dancers will perform Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein’s 2013 Cinderella as their annual musical.
The musical is based on the well-known Cinderella fairytale. Originally written in the 1600s, the tale was brought back to life in Hammerstein’s 1957 book. Rodgers and Hammerstein prepared songs for a broadcast of the musical in 1957, starring Julie Andrews as Cinderella.
In 2013, the musical was turned into a Broadway performance. Laura Osnes starred as Cinderella and Santino Fontana filled the role of the Prince. The show was nominated for nine Tony awards; it won one for best costumes. The production has undergone two North American tours: one in 2013 and another that has been ongoing since 2016.
While Homer High School has performed the original Cinderella musical previously (1996), it is the first time that it has produced the Broadway version. Bella Sprague will star as Cinderella with Zach Apker as the Prince. Maddie Kote will play Cinderella’s evil stepmother, Madame, with Jenniellen Withers and Kaitlyn Clune as Cinderella’s stepsisters, Charlotte and Gabrielle, respectively. The devious Lord Sebastian, played by Rowan Travis, tries to manipulate the other characters throughout the play. The show will be directed by Mrs. Cara K.B. McLaughlin.
Join the cast and crew in March as they unfold Cinderella’s tale! It’s sure to be a show for the whole family!
