Packets came home with your child last week. Thank you for encouraging the love of reading at home!
Class Mass- Our class mass is next Wednesday. Parts will be coming home with your child this week. If your child has a reading part, please practice it each day so that it can be read confidently and fluently.
Valentine's Day Party- We will be exchanging Valentine's on Thursday. A hard copy with our classmate's names came home a couple weeks ago.
Classroom Carnival Basket- Each classroom will be putting together class baskets that will be put up for bids on the silent auction at the school carnival. Each student is asked to send an item to school for our basket. This year our basket theme will be Campfire/Smore’s. Some suggestions might be graham crackers, marshmallows, chocolate, campfire sticks, blanket, etc. Instead of bringing in an item, you can send in a cash donation of $10-$15 and I will purchase items for our basket. Please have all items or donations to school by March 6th. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Thanks for continuing to support our Catholic school.

Lesson 6-5: Two-Step Number Stories
Lesson 6-6: Recording Addition Strategies
Reflex- Your child will be expected to know their addition and subtraction facts fluently by the end of 2nd grade. We have been using a great game-based program, called Reflex to practice these facts. I will be putting your child’s login steps and information in their take-home binder. Students are expected to play until they get their “green light.” This typically takes 15-20 minutes. Their goal is to get their green light each day. The students are given some time at school to do this. If your child does not get their green light at school, your child will be circling “Math Fact Practice” on their assignment sheet and this will be part of their homework to get their green light at home. Reflex works on iPads, tablets, and computers. It does work on a phone, but can be more difficult with a smaller screen. If your child does not have access to a device at home please let me know.

SCIENCE
Material Magic Unit
Essential Question: Could you build a house out of paper?
In this lesson, students examine how large structures like houses are built from smaller pieces. In the activity, Paper Towers, they design their own structures using an unconventional building material: paper! Students build towers using 3" x 5" index cards and paper clips. First, they build tall towers, then they are challenged to build towers strong enough to support a hardcover book.
