MATH
Unit 9: Equal Shares and Whole Number Operations
Lesson 9-12: Unit 9 Progress Check
Reflex- Your child will be expected to know their addition and subtraction facts fluently by the end of 2nd grade. We have been using a great game-based program, called Reflex to practice these facts. I will be putting your child’s login steps and information in their take-home binder. Students are expected to play until they get their “green light.” This typically takes 15-20 minutes. Their goal is to get their green light each day. The students are given some time at school to do this. If your child does not get their green light at school, your child will be circling “Math Fact Practice” on their assignment sheet and this will be part of their homework to get their green light at home. Reflex works on iPads, tablets, and computers. It does work on a phone, but can be more difficult with a smaller screen. If your child does not have access to a device at home please let me know.

Essential Question- why do seeds have so many different shapes?
In this lesson, students explore how the structures of seeds enable them to disperse, with a focus on seeds that utilize animal structures to aid in their dispersal. In the activity, Seed Travelers, students develop a model of a furry animal (“fluffadoo”) and then use it to test how far seed models with different structures can travel.
