According to the NEAYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children), STEAM for young children falls under the umbrella of inquiry instruction. Inquiry instruction encourages active experiences that support building understanding and vocabulary, critical thinking, problem solving, communication and reflection. We can facilitate inquiry experience by creating opportunities for students to learn about the world through STEAM lenses.
So what exactly happens during one of our STEAM class?
Our STEAM sessions at Holy Trinity School are full of opportunities to explore. We make lots of real world connections. We ask lots of questions. We collaborate. We predict. We problem solve. We share our thoughts. We'll use lots of books for background information as well as some short videos from sites like PBS Kids Science to help our students to build a strong vocabulary, develop a deeper understanding of our topics and we'll expand our sense of curiosity.
Most of all, our sessions are filled with the joy of learning. Our sessions are filled with lots of choice as well as exciting opportunities to discover, work together and of course, they are filled with lots of fun!
