Students will complete various novel and short story studies this year, in addition to learning about poetry. Novel studies are important for students in grades 6-8 because they help develop critical reading, thinking, and communication skills. At this stage, students transition from learning to read to reading to learn, and novel studies provide an engaging way to practice and refine these skills.

Students engage in the writing process through graphic organizers, peer edits, and presentation of their work.
By Grade 6, students are expected to be able to write three to four well developed paragraphs on a topic.
