The Church is the people of God all gifted by the mystery of God’s presence and empowered by the Holy Spirit to share these gifts with others. This call to ministry, or service, is an integral part of living the Good News and is an important part of our two-year process.
Service work should reflect the command Jesus gave us, that we loved God and our neighbor. Therefore, we need to do more than just read and talk about love: we must practice it daily.
Minimum 20 hours through Parish/Community service. The following are requirements for service work.
1. Parish Ministry service (15 hours)– this is something that supports a parish function and helps to establish your understanding of importance as an active parishioner, as we are all called to be.
2. Community Outreach / Social Justice (5 hours) – this is something that supports our community at large and helps others to know of our calling to share our time and talent with those in need.
Due on November 30, 2025
THE SPONSOR IS:
A role model of how a person of faith lives today
A friend who knows the candidate and can witness to his/her maturing faith
A guide, confidant, and listener
One who will continue after Confirmation to walk the faith journey with the candidate
Due at end-of-year interview (April)
Each household has unique traditions, prayer life, and relationships with God. The purpose of the shield project is to facilitate family togetherness while expressing family beliefs and values. The uniqueness of each family will be reflected on these shields as they are proudly displayed in the church. Meet as a family to answer and design your family shield based :
What is a symbol that represents a virtue or good quality that your family values most?
Which symbol of Confirmation do you think best represents your family? This can be any of the gifts or fruits of the Holy Spirit.
What will Confirmation mean for me? (e.g. following Christ more closely, serving the church actively in our parish.)
Draw a symbol for each answer and include it in your faith shields, along with a depiction of your family name.
GUIDELINES:
250 words minimum
The shield should be NO LARGER than 18" x 18"; NO SMALLER than 12" x 12"
It should be on poster board or tag board, which may be purchased at a stationary store
You may look up your family coat of arms in the public library if you wish, but this is not required.
Due at end-of-year interview (April)
A letter must be written addressed to our Pastor requesting Confirmation and stating why you wish to be confirmed. In your letter, you please address the following questions/topics:
Why do you feel as though you are prepared to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation?
What commitment will you make to our Catholic faith and how do you intend to practice and live out this commitment?
What do you personally feel is the most important thing about being Catholic?
How have these religious education sessions made a difference in your lief and in your faith?
Please explain why you chose your Confirmation Sponsor. Is this person a good Catholic role model for you? State how they exemplify being Catholic.
250 words minimum; (HINT - Our pastor's should be addressed as Rev. John Cordero, MMHC)
Due at end-of-year interview (February)
We should retain our baptismal name, either first or middle, providing it is a Saint's name, as it has the advantage of reinforcing the relationship to the Sacrament of Baptism. If a new name is chosen, the person should have a solid reason for choosing it. Study the role of the Saint played in the Christian Community and how it relates to your own life. Each candidate is responsible to complete a mini biography about the Saint's name they are choosing for Confirmation and should include answers to the following questions:
What attracted you to chose this particular Saint?
What happened in the Saint's life that drew them to God?
What are some of the hardships and joys that this Saint experienced?
Why do you think the Church recognizes this person as a Saint?
What is the most important quality of the saint that means the most to you? How can you imitate and incorporate that quality in your own life?
Note: Most public libraries have a good selection of books about the saints!
250 words minimum + 1 picture of the saint
February 13, February 14, & February 15
Reflection and retreats are crucial elements to discerning the reception of any sacrament, but most importantly for Confirmation. This is an opportunity to step away from the busyness of our daily routines and distractions of our electronic devices. Our candidates from Year 2 will be traveling to the Irvine Ranch Outdoor Education Center (Orange, CA) for an opportunity to experience God's love and beautiful creations. We hope to widen our perspectives and call on the Holy Spirit to reveal to us whom we are called to know, where we are called to serve, and why we are called to love. While it may require a bit of vulnerability from both parents and candidates alike, the retreat is ultimately designed to be vulnerable to God, for God, and with God.
NOTE: All volunteers and staff are required to be VIRTUS Certified and/or fingerprinted.
Our candidates for 2026 will be sealed with the Holy Spirit for the Sacrament of Confirmation! Candidate Procession will begin at [TBD]. Holy Mass will begin promptly at [TBD] with Bishop [TBD] as our Prelate. Candidates and their sponsors should arrive by [TBD] and no later than [TBD]; check-in to the classrooms to pick up robes and nametags.
