Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year. I will be following the Archdiocese Curriculum which you can find at https://archkck.org/catholicschools/curriculum/. You can filter down by grade level and content to see what we will be up to during this school year.
All Science classes will still be using STEMScopes, which will give the students many hands-on opportunities using small group work as well. We also have Mrs. Lee Gruss with us this year as our school STREAM Liaison. She will be helping with our STREAM classes and our regular Science classes this year as well. The 6th-graders will be focusing on Earth, Moon, and Space. The 7th-graders will be focusing on Life Science, while the 8th-graders will be focusing on Physical Science. All of Middle School Science will have many hands-on Labs/Activities while utilizing the STEMScopes online program.
ALL Social Studies courses will be utilizing classroom lectures and readings, we will do plenty of hands-on activities. I am a firm believer in reaching out to all learning styles to the best of my ability.
6th Grade-A primary focus on Ancient Civilizations. We will begin with Mesopotamia and end with Ancient Rome. We have a lot to cover as many of these units can take multiple weeks to complete.
7th Grade-A primary focus on Geography and Kansas history. We will be utilizing the 5 Themes of Geography to navigate our World. We will be learning about Maps, Cultures, Religions, and everything in between. We will be working on Kansas History as well in order to prepare for the HGSS Assessment, which is required by the State in 7th grade.
8th Grade-A primary focus on United States History, starting with 1787 and the Constitutional Convention. We will keep going from there. Depending on our timing this year, we should make it through WWII. Students will be working on many group activities which will require some research, writing skills, and even some creativity.
