You will have access to laundry machines at both Everton Hall and Kelburn Flats. You do it, and you pay for it.
Both Everton Hall and Kelburn Flats are "self-catering," which means that students do all their own cooking and grocery shopping. While preparing your own meals may come as a sea-change from Holy Cross, it is expected and conventional for university students in the UK - and by extension, New Zealand.
Lean into this cultural difference and personal adventure!
Because of this self-catering set-up, Holy Cross students will NOT be charged a meal plan for the duration of the semester(s) they study abroad.
One way to budget for food is to take the equivalent dollar cost of a semester's meal plan at Holy Cross and apply it to the number of days you will spend in New Zealand (per semester). This is your food budget per day. Of course, there are many ways to eat and places to shop for food, so lean into your on-site Arcadia resources for tips on where to grocery shop economically, how to keep to a food budget, and how often (and how!) to live it up on occasion in your host city.
We recommend doing some quick googling (check out Numbeo.com) to gain a sense of city-specific food and drink-related costs.
As an enrolled student, you will have access to the university's athletic and gym facilities.
Keep in mind that your Holy Cross Student Activities fee reimbursement does not cover a private gym membership. You will need to pay for that out of pocket.
