You will have access to laundry at your residential college or apartment. Yes, you pay to do your own laundry.
If you live at one of the residential colleges or at Scape Street Victoria, all meals will be provided and you will be charged full board accordingly (i.e., the full cost of the Holy Cross meal plan). If you live in the Student Village, you will prepare your own meals. As a result there will be no charge on your HC bill for a meal plan during the semester(s) you study abroad.
For those opting for the Student Village apartment-style living, one way to budget for food is to take the equivalent dollar cost of a semester's meal plan at Holy Cross and apply it to the number of days you will spend in Melbourne (per semester). This is your food budget/day. Of course, there are many ways to eat and places to shop for food, so lean into your on-site Arcadia staff for tips on where to grocery shop economically, how to keep to a food budget, and how often (and how!) to live it up on occasion in Melbourne.
We recommend doing some quick googling (check out Numbeo.com) to gain a sense of city-specific food and drink-related costs.
All the residence colleges and Student Village have gyms. Note that your Holy Cross Student Activities fee reimbursement does not cover a private gym membership. Pay out of pocket, or plan to take advantage of the UniMelbourne recreational facilities made available to you.
