Who are you?
I'm Su Yin Hu [Suyin Huh] and I teach Math and Computer Science at Holmdel High School.
What is your background as a teacher?
I have an M.Ed from the University of Pennsylvania and a B.S. in Mathematics from the College of William and Mary. I've taught students since 2016 in various locations: New Jersey, Virginia, and South Korea. Subjects I've taught include Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Multivariable Calculus, SAT Math, and AP Computer Science.
What do you value as a teacher?
I emphasize (1) problem solving (with reasoning), (2) communication, and (3) perseverance in my classes. These skills are not only important to succeeding in the current job market but also in math and computer science. Hence, it is crucial that students start building these skills early and often. In short, if you ever wonder 'when am I ever going to use this?' remember that it's not just about the content but practicing the skills that can get you the life you want.
Any fun facts about you?
I grew up in three different countries: Korea, India, and Saudi Arabia. From moving often, I went to 8 different schools between grades 1 - 12. This experience helped me become adaptable and open-minded to any kind of situation/environment.
