Facilitate regular peer interactions among similar-ability students to enhance their academic and social development.
Our comprehensive assessment process ensures fair and accurate identification, using multiple measures such as achievement tests, student work, aptitude scores, and behavioral inventories. We are committed to tracking student progress over time and using culturally responsive assessments to support the diverse needs of our students.
The gifted and talented services in Holmdel Township Public Schools are needs-based and designed, in accordance with NJ-A4710: Strengthening Gifted Education Act, for those students who, when compared to their chronological peers, possess or demonstrate exceptionally high levels of ability in one or more content areas.
Our universal screening begins in second grade, followed by annual reevaluation to ensure new students are identified and those who no longer benefit from the program are transitioned appropriately. This process ensures equitable and ongoing access for all students. The identification criteria are designed to be culturally responsive, accounting for diverse backgrounds, language proficiencies, and socioeconomic factors.
Through a tiered system of support, G&T services provide additional and appropriate educational challenges and opportunities to meet the needs of identified students. The curricula for the various Gifted and Talented programs are developed by our educators, who receive ongoing professional development to deliver high-quality, differentiated instruction. These programs are designed to provide appropriate challenges to intellectually and academically advanced learners and are approved by the Board of Education.
The term “gifted” recognizes exceptionality in aptitude or achievement requiring appropriately differentiated services for students to reach their full potential. We also engage parents and the community through informational sessions and resources, ensuring a shared understanding and support for the unique needs of our gifted learners.
