Reading

In room 209, we follow the structured literacy model for reading utilizing the Fountas and Pinnell materials. Our Reading block includes independent reading time, mini-lessons, and centers.

During reading the students will be working on various vocabulary, word building, phonics, reading comprehension, and fluency skills. All of these skills we practice help them to become readers who understand what they are reading, can read all the words in a story or use strategies to figure them out, and are able to read with emotion!

Our writing block follows a similar set up except there are no centers after the mini-lesson the students spend the rest of the block writing and practicing the skills they learned in the mini-lesson.
