Devoirs/Homework

Homework/school work policy:

  • The homework assignments and notices will be written on the whiteboard. It is the student's responsibility to copy the homework assignments and write the notices in his/her agenda daily.

  • No homework or school work will be given in advance for family vacations. Please contact me for special circumstances such as illness or family emergency situations.

  • Work not completed in class within a reasonable amount of time will be sent home for completion.

  • Homework in both French and English classrooms should take together no more than 45-50 minutes per evening. If your child is taking longer, please have him/her stop and send in a note or an email to let us know why your child is having difficulty so that we may help.

  • No homework during school vacations.

Independent Reading:

Students will be assigned a weekly reading from the French children's magazines Mon Quotidien or Le Petit Quotidien. This should not take them more than 15-20 minutes to read. They are encouraged to re-read the journal multiple times during the week and look up the words they do not understand in a dictionary (book or online). They will be asked to reflect about their reading in writing. There is no log to fill out. Attached below are the study guidelines for students and parents.

Students will receive a hard copy of the magazine articles which could also be read/printed from my Google drive via this link:

Students are also encouraged to read independently for enjoyment. the text of interest should be material that they can decode and understand with little difficulty. Student can read their own French books or borrow one from the school or classroom library. I will be happy to help your child find a book of interest from our classroom library. Please check the Ressources de lecture page on this website for other reading resources as well.

Here are some suggestions to help your child enjoy reading in French:

Please do not "supervise" the reading time. Rather, find a reading "nook" to give your child his/her own quiet space to enjoy reading without being interrupted. Let your child choose what he/she wants to read in French (chapter book, magazine, comic books, non-fiction, etc.). Re-reading the same material is also good to improve comprehension and help retain vocabulary.

Spelling:

Students should practice their spelling words as frequently as possible before the test. Tests are usually on Fridays. Please see the Les mots de l'orthographe/Spelling lists page for more details.
