Professional Development Workshop

Leader on “Mindset"

On Tuesday's Professional Development Day, teachers learned about the Growth Mindset, a concept that each student's abilities are NOT fixed, and each student has the potential to learn anything, with the proper support and instruction. To illustrate this concept, teachers who admitted they "could never learn to play the trumpet" received 30 minutes of instruction from elementary music teacher Katie Lemoine and then demonstrated their new knowledge by participating in their first concert. What a POWERFUL demonstration of the notion that a student's belief in themselves as a learner is a key ingredient to their success. We need to replace the negative self-talk of "I can't do this" with "I can't do this....yet!"
