As school counselors, our mission is to address the ongoing personal, educational, career, and postsecondary planning needs of Holliston High School students through counseling and related activities. We also offer support to classroom teachers and parents upon request. Our objective, which aligns with our Vision of a Graduate, is to empower students to recognize and manage their emotions, set and achieve positive goals, demonstrate empathy for others, cultivate positive relationships, and make well-informed decisions and healthy choices. We follow American School Counselor Association (ASCA) standards and the Massachusetts School Counselor Association (MASCA) MA Model 3.0.

The department’s emphasis is not only helping students who experience difficulties and social/emotional concerns.; it includes assisting all students in coping with typical developmental challenges in high school. To ensure personalized attention, students are assigned a team comprising an Assistant Principal and a School Counselor, remaining with them throughout their tenure at HHS. This team collaborates closely to help students utilize community resources optimally.

We will collaborate with students and families on academic planning, course selection, and transitions. Throughout high school, counselors guide students in academic planning, concluding with assistance in postsecondary planning. Additionally, counselors work with teachers and administrators regarding student progress and issues, consulting with outside agencies when necessary.

Communication is vital, and parents or students are encouraged to inform counselors of any significant family changes that may impact the student. While the extent of information shared is at the individual's discretion, the more counselors know, the better they can offer comfort, support, and guidance. Counselors also responsibly share pertinent information with teachers, ensuring a supportive environment, with parental or student consent.

In instances requiring additional support, school adjustment counselors / social workers are available, and referrals to them are facilitated by the school counselors.
