Summer Training

Summer is the time to build endurance and prepare for the long season ahead. In order to be successful, it's important that runners maintain some type of training over the summer.

**Runners are expected to log their summer running.

Focus during summer training:

      • Long runs

      • More miles, less speed

      • Strength training/weight lifting

While all of this is integrated into the season, consistency is key.

The beginning of summer training should be relatively easy: long runs on flat surfaces. By the end of July, add one tempo run per week. By mid August, add some more challenging runs (including hills).

Remember, the season is divided into three parts:

1- Base Training- the summer: building endurance and cutting back before the season starts

2- Team Meets- August- mid October: strength and speed while maintaining base

3- Championship Racing- mid October-early November: decreasing the number of runs/distance of runs but increasing effort/intensity
