I chose to do a zoom background that was easily accessible, as it is in the corner of my room where I don't have to get out of my bed haha. I wanted to focus on warm colors such as pink, yellow, and orange to inspire a warm, pleasant and happy feeling, which is the spirit that I've been trying to maintain during these times. I think it turned out very cohesive, with the colors, plants, and japanese art.
Week 6: April 26th - May 2nd
My quarantine has mostly been spent in my bed keeping myself busy with art, school work, and TV shows to distract myself from the pandemic. Sometimes though, I like to look out this window and reflect on my situation, because I realized that this is an event that will go down in history, and by staying quarantined (no matter how much I hate it) I'm doing my part. This is the energy I tried to capture in the image.
I took the concept you gave me and instead of laying down and everything surrounding me, I decided to hang everything on a beautiful tree outside my house. The items symbolize everything that has been helping me cope with the quarantine and the tree also represents my love for being outside and enjoying the springtime and the blooming of the flowers.
Week 5: April 19th - April 25th
OKAY MR LACK I KNOW IT LOOKS BAD BUT HEAR ME OUT!!! Okay so basically my self portrait is about quarantine and how it is to me. Which is why it’s so erratic and kind of awful but yeah. BASICALLY so you have some sort of understanding of it I used a plastic bag that my parents used to hold their food at the supermarket today as my recycled object. I started by just drawing a regular self portrait (I attached the unpainted version if you wanna see it) and then I cut the bag in half and used it to paint over my portrait. I basically just chose colors that made me feel certain feelings that I feel during quarantine like with the right side of the head I feel sadness, hopelessness, and loneliness so I used like dull grays and tans and very cool sort of empty colors. Then the left side is the anger, rage and rebellious part (and a TEENSY bit of fear) so I used really rich warm, statement colors that mixed to make really loud browns and yeah basically it’s just really loud. Also instead of dabbing it on almost tentatively like with the sad side I smeared it all on so the colors really mixed together. THEN onto the nose and mouth. Seeing we’re quarantined for a respiratory disease I chose the most sickly colors I could find and sort of dripped them on there in a (I know it’s disgusting) “mucusey” kind of way. Then I did an X with the warmer colors to represent the social distancing and the 6 feet apart. FINALLY the bottom of the piece to me feels closest to the heart and that is where the hope and happiness lies so I used the happiest most lively colors that to me feels like they bring life and dabbed them on in a flowery kind of way. THEN I hot glued the two pieces of the plastic bag to the face as tears (you know to add to the whole suffering thing).
