What is a doula?
In simple terms, a doula is a holistic birthing practitioner. However, there are so many layers as to what this could mean for you. I offer a range of services such as: conscious conception support, prenatal support, delivery support, and post-partum support. I can be with you from the beginning of your birthing journey through to after, or any isolated stage.
Why have a doula?
While other birthing practices can be useful in their respective areas, the modern world of birthing is lacking in support for mothers. One of my largest functions as a doula is advocacy. I will do my best to make sure your birth experience is as you want it. Doulas offer a holistic lens that supports mind, body, and spirit. We cover integral aspects medical practitioners don't touch on.
Can I have a doula if I've given birth before?
Absolutely! I'm glad you have some experience. I believe we can make any subsequent births an even better, or potentially healing, experience. Each time you go through the process deserves a special amount of care.
How is a doula different to a midwife?
Midwives are medically trained practitioners, whereas doulas are holistically trained. I cannot assist with clinical aspects or examinations. Midwives also tend to be centered around delivery. My focus is supporting you through conception, pregnancy, birth, and post-partum. You also tend to have one doula through the journey that you build a relationship with. Neither is mutually exclusive; we usually work in tandem.
