If you are new to robotics, the Engineering Design Process (EDP) is central to everything we do. In a nutshell, the EDP consists of:
Identifying the problem
Brainstorm, diagram, or prototype solutions
Select best solution and plan
Build and program the solution
Test the solution
Repeat the process if needed
At every VEX Robotics Competition (VRC), the EDP rubric is used as the starting point for the judges as they consider awards. The design notebook that each team keeps throughout the year is the evidence that they are using the EDP. Many of the skills that are learned in engineering class provide students with the tools needed to design and plan: orthographic sketching, isometric sketching, Fusion 360, etc.
