My name is Mrs. Quijada and I am the school counselor at Grazide Elementary School. This is my fifth year at our amazing school of the Rams! I was born in El Salvador and grew up in Downey, CA. I started at Fullerton College and graduated from Cal State Fullerton with a BA in Sociology and a minor in Child Development. After almost a decade, I returned to school for my Master's in School Counseling with a PPS credential from Concordia University.
I am married and have two boys that I love. One of my happy places is the beach. I enjoy hiking and traveling with my family.
As a school counselor, some of the things I enjoy the most are getting to know our amazing students and families, collaborating with our fantastic teaching and support staff, and enjoying all the amazing events our PTA sponsors throughout the year. I am proud to be part of a school community that promotes kindness, fairness, caring, and compassion.
School Counselors are certified professionals who support students' academic, social, emotional, and personal growth through various services on campus. They offer classroom guidance, small groups, one-on-one sessions, and daily interactions to help students understand themselves, manage emotions, and succeed academically.
School Counselors help students manage crises, build skills, and solve problems to succeed in school and are not therapist. Therapists provide more intensive, personalized, and ongoing therapy.
Conversations with school counselors are confidential unless there's a safety concern.
The California Department of Education (CDE) and CASEL support Transformational Social Emotional Learning Standards (T-SEL), which guide the development of social/emotional skills for students at different ages and grades. These standards are based on CASEL's five core competencies. Check them out for more details!
