The fin.
The fin. is the brainchild of Japanese producer/songwriter Yuto Uchino who single-handedly writes, records, mixes and produces. Bassist Kaoru Nakazawa—formerly a drummer in the project’s early works—joins Uchino in the touring incarnation. The duo hail from the port city of Kobe, though their sound has reverberated across the world, particularly in the west, where it has drawn praise for its Europhilic blend of chillwave, dream pop, shoegaze, and kaleidoscopic psych grooves. Uchino’s lyrics affirm the uncertainty of growth and change, often channeling deeply introspective themes into addictive melodies. Having lived near London for few years, they collaborated with a broad spectrum of artists and producers, including Bradley Spence, All We Are, Circa Waves, Petite Noir, and opened for major artists such as Phoenix, The Last Shadows Puppets, MEW and Wild Nothing.
The band has taken the stage at numerous venues across the UK, US, Europe, and Asia, showcasing their talent at festivals such as SXSW in the US, Fuji Rock and Summer Sonic in Japan, UK’s The Great Escape, Strawberry Festival in China, MaMA in France. During their 2023 China tour, they performed in over 25 cities, drawing a cumulative audience of more than 20,000 at their solo shows.
The fin. has released several albums and EPs: their debut album, “Days With Uncertainty” (2014), recorded, mixed, and produced by Yuto Uchino; the second album, “There” (2018), co-produced by Bradley Spence (Jamiroquai, Radiohead, alt-J); the EP “Wash Away” (2019), co-produced by Bradley Spence and Jake Miller (Bjork, Arca); and their third album, “Outer Ego” (2021), entirely recorded, mixed, and produced by Yuto Uchino. Their last release was 2022’s “Outer Ego Deluxe”, an edition with remixes by artists and producers from all over the world, including Sunset Rollercoaster (TW).
