In Year 9 students will have the chance to take part in “take your child to work day” where they will shadow a relative in their workplace to gain an understanding of a work environment. We are also hosting a post 16 careers fair in January which Year 9 students will be invited to attend.
During year 10 students have a day off of their timetable to take part in ‘Get Work Ready’ day. Activities include mock interviews and assessment centres as well as confidence and teamwork skills.
In Year 11, the Careers Department works closely with students to provide help with applications for jobs and further education, finding apprenticeships, interview technique, writing CVs and arranging visits to college open days. By the end of year 11 all students will have had the opportunity to meet with a qualified Careers Adviser, in addition to which a Careers drop in session is available every Thursday.
All Year 12 students will be encouraged to take part in a one-week work experience placement during the summer term. This is an important preparation for the ‘world of work’. While this is a fully integrated element in the careers programme, it is not intended to be career specific. It will give students the opportunity to develop vital key skills, such as communication, responsibility and punctuality etc. in a workplace.
Additionally, all sixth form students have a day off of timetable to take part in a workshops supporting CV writing, University applications etc.
