Welcome to SEND at Hitchin Boys' School.
At Hitchin Boys', we want every child to achieve their best, including children with additional needs. We want them to become confident individuals, prepared for adult life - wherever that may lead - whether into employment, further or higher education or apprenticeships/training.
We will use our best endeavors to ensure that students with SEND get the support they need – this means doing everything we can to meet their needs, ensuring that students with SEND are included in all the activities and opportunities HBS has to offer.
We can only do this together. We involve parents and carers every step of the way - from transition in Y6, right the way through to GCSEs and A levels. We do this by having one formal opportunity to meet with us once a term, to review your child’s progress, as well as having open communication channels through email and meetings, whenever that is necessary. You can find more information about SEND at Hitchin Boys by clicking here.
We will contact you shortly to begin the process of creating your child’s Passport. This is a one-page document, shared with your child’s teachers, that outlines your child’s needs and suggests some support strategies teachers can use in the classroom. We will also begin to liaise with your child's feeder Primary School.
We look forward to working together to make sure that your child’s experience at Hitchin Boys' is the very best it can be.

If you are considering an ADHD or autism referral for your son, or if your son is already on the referral route and you are waiting for an appointment, it would be helpful to contact the SENDCo to talk through any concerns that you have, and for strategies to be put in place if necessary. This will help us complete the referral forms more accurately, especially if your son is not already on the SEND register. Please contact Mr Wilson by email SENDCo@hitchinboys.co.uk
