The Van Wert County Historical Society is growing. We are currently running a capital improvement campaign. We are planning a new building on our campus to house a local history and genealogy research library, additional display spaces, and a large meeting room. The Faces of Big Horn, David Humphreys Miller Collections will be on permeant display in the meeting room.

“Van Wert County in the Civil War,” the presentation covers the raising of local units to
fight, local news coverage, support for the war and dissent which was sometimes
violent. Van Wert County African American men served to end slavery and save the
Union. The war had both short- and long-term effects on the County.
