Questions about AP and Dual Credit GPA Weight?  

Senate Bill 1191 is a new state law that allows the Texas Commissioner of Education to create a standardized way to calculate high school grade point averages (GPAs) across the state. The goal is to ensure fairness and consistency, especially when it comes to giving extra weight to more rigorous courses like advanced placement courses, honors courses and dual credit courses. 

Under SB 1191, these courses will receive additional GPA weight. Importantly, the law says that AP and dual credit courses (that are not part of the Workforce Education Course Manual) must be weighted equally.

What This Means for Hallsville High School Students: 

At this time, the Commissioner of Education has not yet finalized the new GPA calculation method. Until those guidelines are officially put in place, Hallsville ISD will continue using its current GPA calculation policies as outlined in the course guide.

We will keep parents and students informed about any changes once the Commissioner provides a clear plan. Our goal remains the same to ensure all students are treated fairly and have their hard work recognized, especially in rigorous academic courses.
