JUDGING AND SCORING
Judges are 3-4 unbiased anonymous faculty/staff/administrators of HIS that are not parents of STEM participants nor associated with STEM. Names will be provided after the event.
Judges will reach a consensus and rank all entries from N to 1 where N is the number of entries. Highest number is the strongest entry. Ties may be given.
If 5 teams are ranked and there are ties at the top and bottom, a sample might look like the following: 5, 5, 3, 2, 2.
Coaches (1 representative from each STEM team) will view all entries and submit rankings of these entries.
For coaches, rankings are from N-2 or N-1 to 1. This is because coaches cannot rank their own students’ entries.
The best entry would be given a rank of 14 or 15 (if 16 entries exist).
Coaches and judges do not rank based on the rubric. They give rankings based on difficulty level, elegant mathematics, efficient structure, creativity, originality, and professionalism of the submitted entry.
Coaches’ scores are all submitted and averaged to achieve a final Coaches’ Score. This is ranked from N to 1.
Total Score = points rank + coaches' rank + judges' rank
