Please refer to the information below which breaks down the student experiences during construction.
Drop-Off- Drop off for students, similar to the experience of years past, can continue to take place by dropping students near the intersection of Cross Street and Magnolia as well as Hillsdale Ave and Magnolia. In addition, the curb area on the temporary classroom side of Magnolia will be designated as a drop-off lane. Parents can pull up, and students can exit the vehicle on the passenger side of the car. As you drop-off, please pull all the way up on Magnolia toward Hillsdale Ave to prevent congestion. After drop-off, when exiting Magnolia and onto Hillsdale Avenue you will only be permitted to make a right turn.
Arrival: Upon arrival, students will gather on the blacktop/basketball court area next to the temporary classroom units (TCU). Students will be organized by homeroom teacher. The blacktop wil be lined with cones indicating the homeroom teacher's name to ease student arrival and organization. Once students are gathered they will be escorted into their classroom by their homeroom teacher as the school day begins.
School Day: Students will go from class to class during the first and second day of school. During this time students will also be part of a grade level assembly that will take place in the middle school gymnasium. This space is only available to us until September 8th, 2025. At this time the principal, vice principal teachers and members of the administrative team will go over the expectations for the year and also share pertinent information about the modular campus. Students will also have the opportunity to do a "dry-run" and walk through their lunch setting so they are prepared for their dining experience which begins on Monday, September 8th, 2025.
Dismissal: You may arrange a pre-determined spot with your child for pick-up. Additionally, the curb area on the temporary classroom side of Magnolia will be designated a pick-up lane in the afternoon. Parents can pull up and students can enter the vehicle on the passenger side of the car. As you arrive, please pull all the way up on Magnolia toward Hillsdale Ave to prevent congestion. After pick-up, when exiting Magnolia and onto Hillsdale Avenue you will only be permitted to make a right turn. The area in front of the blacktop/basketball court will be reserved for the afternoon buses.

Student schedules for the upcoming school year will be released in the parent portal on September 2nd at 3:30 PM. Please remember that all required forms and information must be completed in the Realtime Parent Portal to gain access to your child's schedule. This year, our day will consist of 8-periods on a 6-day rotation, which will provide a consistent and balanced learning experience for our students. This is the same schedule utilized during the 2024-2025 school year.
During this school year, each grade level will have its own designated lunch. The lunch period will be split in half: approximately half of the students will eat lunch at the Hillsdale United Methodist Church (HUMC) first, while the other half of the grade enjoys recess first. At the halfway point, students will switch, ensuring all students have both lunch and recess time.
Students will always be assigned to their homeroom for these rotations. This approach will ensure a smooth, consistent start to our new campus routines. To create a strong grade-level community, we will change the specific homerooms that are grouped together for lunch and recess throughout the year, ensuring all students have ample opportunities to interact with all of their grade-level peers.
Students will be escorted to and from by members of the administrative team, lunch duty staff and our SLEO III police officer. Similar to the experince during the 2024-2025 school year, Magnolia Avenue will be closed during the school day. Hillsdale Avenue will remain active and adults and SLEO III personnel will be present for this transition.
Chromebooks are an essential learning tool at George White Middle School, and we ask that students bring their fully charged devices to school each day. Chromebooks, Chromebook charger, and case will be distributed on September 4th, 2025 during the school day.
If your child’s Chromebook is not functioning properly, please contact our technology coordinator, Michael Ulshoefer, at mulshoefer@hillsdaleschools.com. All other necessary information regarding student device use, care, and expectations can be found in the Chromebook Agreement, which you will sign off on in the Realtime Parent Portal.
We believe strong communication between school and home is vital to student success. Please continue to read our school newsletter, which will be posted on our school website every Friday under the "News and Announcements" section, located under the "Our School" tab. Our Friday newsletter is also sent out via our Realtime eblast and is an important way for us to keep the lines of communication open. We also communicate frequently via email. Please contact the main office if you are not receiving our electronic communications.
You can visit our website at white.hillsdaleschools.com under the "Our School" tab / "News and Announcements" to access weekly updates. Information regarding programs and events will always be included on the webpage. Additionally, please visit the GWFFA website at www.georgewhiteffa.com to join our family and faculty association. The GWFFA is a major financial supporter of our academic, social, and emotional programs in school.
We are excited for the start of the 2025-2026 school year and the year ahead for our George White students. We look forward to partnering with you for a truly remarkable year filled with learning, success, and positive experiences.
The temporary classroom units do not have student lockers. Students will be responsible for carrying their materials with them throughout the school day. We recommend that students choose a comfortable and appropriately sized backpack to carry their books, notebooks, and other necessary supplies.
To minimize distractions and support a focused learning environment, students are required to keep all cell phones, smart watches, and smart glasses in their backpacks on silent or in school mode throughout the school day. If a student needs to make an urgent call home, they may do so from the main office.
Any student seen using their phone or other smart device during school hours will have the device confiscated and held in the main office until the end of the day. After 3 such instances, the student will then be required to drop off their phone/device in the main office before the school day begins and may pick it up at the end of the day. We appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain an optimal learning atmosphere.
To ensure the least disruption to instructional time, if you need to drop off forgotten items such as lunches or Chromebooks for your child, please place them in the designated Tupperware container located outside of Pod 5. Please ensure all items are clearly labeled with your child's name. Our office staff will ensure these items reach your child promptly. All medications should continue to be brought directly to the nurse.
Back-to-School Night will be held on October 7 at 6:30 P.M. This evening is an important opportunity to meet your child's teachers, learn about the curriculum, and understand expectations for the academic year. We look forward to welcoming you to the temporary classroom units for this important event! More information will emerge as we get closer to this date.
Pictures will be taken on Thursday, October 23rd! This year, pictures will be taken outdoors under a tent. We will share additional information regarding specific procedures and details for picture day as we get closer to the date.
As we navigate our new campus, please be aware that students will be traveling short distances outdoors between pods throughout the day for classes, and will also walk across the street to the gym for physical education and the Hillsdale United Methodist Church for lunch. This outdoor travel allows us to connect our learning spaces to ensure a consistent experience as students have had in the past.
When traveling to Hillsdale United Methodist Church (HUMC) and the gymnasium, we recognize that students could encounter rain/precipitation during this extended walk. Based on our schedule, students will move in groups of approximately 60 to and from HUMC, and in smaller groups for physical education. We will have umbrellas available on both ends of this journey so students can choose to stay dry under the cover of one of our umbrellas.
Additionally, to ensure your child's comfort and well-being, especially during challenging weather conditions, we ask that you make sure your child comes to school prepared. Students should dress according to the daily weather forecast, including appropriate outerwear such as coats, raincoats, and shoes that can withstand outdoor conditions if rain is in the forecast. Please be assured that student safety is our top priority. In the event of extreme weather conditions, we will pause student movement, initiate a shelter-in-place protocol within the pods until the weather passes, and it is safe for students to travel between locations. Our staff will always be present to supervise and guide students during transitions. We appreciate your partnership in preparing your child for a successful day, no matter the weather!

Hillsdale school officials estimate that the entire project would take about 20-24 months to complete. This includes time needed to collaborate with architects, engineers, and financial advisors to put details into a transition plan. It also includes time to establish a modular campus, renovate GW’s interior, rebuild its Cafetorium and build a small addition. Education and safety would be top priority.
September 2025: The school year would begin at the modular campus; the school would be shut down except the Gymnasium. Renovations would begin at GW.
September 2027: This is the target for the opening of a new era for GW and the Hillsdale community. As a new school year begins in a modernized middle school, modular classrooms would be sent back to the manufacturer to be refurbished for the next district in need.
September 2028: This is the target for re-created athletic fields to be ready for use by Physical Education activities and student-athletes.
