Grade eight English/Language Arts is a new type of course for most middle school students, as the design of the course is new. This class is designed to best prepare students for high school and higher education learning experiences.

This class supports student-directed learning, student choice, and it is designed to meet the needs and abilities of all students through differentiated learning opportunities.

You will not be assigned homework; however, you should complete work at home if you are unable to use the class time wisely, or if you have been absent and need to catch up.

Grading:

Students will be assessed using a Total Points system

Each assignment will be worth a certain amount of points and grades will be determined by how many of those points they earn (example writing assignment could be worth 50 points and student may earn 45 points-- the grade will be 45/50 = 90 %)

Students are given multiple opportunities to improve their grade throughout the trimester
