Hillmorton High School vision: "With our communities, we nurture well-rounded and accomplished young people, prepared and ready for life. This is supported by our mission: 'Inspiring academic excellence, leadership and a love of learning'.
Teaching and learning at Hillmorton High School embraces a holistic approach to developing academic success, creativity, problem-solving, co-curricular involvement and leadership aspects of each student's (ākonga) education.
Hillmorton High School works actively to identify and support enrichment of our ākonga. Referrals for enrichment can be made by whānau, teachers from our partnership schools, the student’s current teachers, or the students themselves.
“Academic enrichment is for all ākonga, and those who demonstrate these qualities in particular:
Exceptional academic ability
Leadership ability
Specific aptitude i.e. visual arts, cultural, performing arts, creative thinking, leadership.
Once identified, ākonga are extended through careful and differentiated programming, taking into account relevant cultural perspectives. This may include an individual education plan which is ongoing and monitored, as well as other supports. Our goal is to encourage our enrichment ākonga to extend themselves by offering support, guidance, and opportunities to use their talents.
There has been much research regarding the relationship between learning a musical instrument and the increased brain connections.
There are opportunities to learn an instrument and join a music group here.
There are many opportunities out there for extension and enrichment, including competitions, events and subject-specific camps and conferences. Ākonga are at times invited to take part in our enrichment programmes or events offered by external providers, which are advertised in the notices and newsletters.
There are many opportunities offered such as
