It has been a pleasure to witness how much each and every pupil has grown academically and socially over this summer term. The dedication and hard work from both students and staff have truly paid off, resulting in a term filled with remarkable achievements and memorable moments.
Numerous pupils have represented our school in a plethora of inter-school competitions, showcasing their talents and bringing pride to Hillborough. Within the school, our classes and year groups have enthusiastically participated in inter-house sporting events and performing arts, fostering a spirit of teamwork and healthy competition.
The 'Great Together' event was a standout success, with so many of our pupils performing expertly on stage and receiving tremendous encouragement from their parents and carers. It was heart-warming to see the community come together to celebrate the talents of our young performers.
A particular highlight of the term was the Year 6 production of 'The Greatest Showman'. This spectacular performance was the best production I have had the privilege to see over my career. The pupils were phenomenal, displaying wonderful singing, acting and dancing skills that left the audience in awe.
I would like to extend a huge thank you to our sports staff who have tirelessly coached our competitive teams both over the summer and throughout the year. Their dedication has led to an epic list of sporting achievements, celebrated during our annual sports assembly, which saw a fantastic turnout from our supportive parents.
In addition to our sporting triumphs, our pupils achieved fantastic SATs results, reflecting their hard work and the excellent teaching they have received. As they progress to their high schools I commend them for their excellent attitude over the last four years and know that they will continue to do themselves proud in their learning journeys.
As we conclude this term, I wish all of my pupils, their parents and my staff a super summer break. You have all earned it, and I look forward to seeing you refreshed and ready for another successful term ahead.
What an incredible finale for our Year 3 pupils to end their first year at HJS. We are immensely proud of each and every one of the children. Each student has been on their own, personal journey, growing not ony in stature but also academically, socially and emotionally. We hope that the skills they have developed this year will set the solid foundations on which to build on during their remaining years at Hillborough School and beyond.
We have completed some wonderful cross curricular assignments this half term, culminating in digital designed sweet packaging for our Willy Wonka inspired magical sweets! We certainly have some design entrpreneurs, engineers and inventors of the future in Year 3! In history, the children thoroughly enjoyed learning about the Romans- the Roman Day where the children all came dressed up and sample 'roasted door mice' was one of our highlights!
All that is left to say is a huge thank you for your ongoing support. The progress the children have made this year would not be possible without the dedication and love from you, their parents and carers. We wish you all a happy, healthy and safe summer break and look forward to seeing you back on Tuesday 3rd September!
As we wrap up another exciting school year, we'd like to share some highlights of what our Year 4 children have been learning this term. In Literacy our young readers embarked on an exciting adventure with "The Explorer" by Katherine Rundell. This captivating story not only improved their reading skills but also sparked their imagination and curiosity about exploration and survival.
Mathematics: We focused on practical maths skills, including telling time, understanding shapes, and working with angles. These foundational concepts will serve them well in both everyday life and future maths studies.
For Science the students dived into the fascinating world of sound and vibrations. They conducted various experiments to understand how sound travels and how different materials affect sound waves.
In Geography, our budding geographers explored the lush and diverse ecosystems of rainforests. They also learned about the critical issue of deforestation and its impact on our planet, fostering environmental awareness.
Computing was a blast! Channelling their inner entrepreneurs, students created their own businesses and prepared impressive pitches for none other than Lord Sugar! This project honed their digital skills, creativity, and public speaking abilities.
We're incredibly proud of all the hard work and progress your children have made this year. We wish you all a wonderful summer break filled with fun, relaxation, and happiness!
The second half of the summer term was an exciting period for Class 8, as they concluded their participation in the 'Schools Linking Network by hosting pupils from ‘William Austin’ which was reciprocated by a visit to them later in the term. Both visits were filled with fun activities, collaborative learning and the chance to explore a new school environment.
An essential part of this term was the 'Safer Streets' talk. This session aimed to educate pupils about potential dangers they might encounter in their daily lives and how to avoid them.
Pupils showcased their creativity and engineering skills in Design Technology. They undertook several exciting projects including: designing and building their own bridges; creating biscuit boxes and baking biscuits to fill them; and designing and producing bags. The finished products were impressive, showcasing their design flair and practical skills.
The end-of-year presentations highlighted the contributions of numerous pupils in academics, sports, performing arts and attendance. These presentations were a wonderful way to recognize and celebrate the hard work and dedication of our pupils throughout the year. Congratulations to all who received awards—you have made us all very proud!
We look forward to another exciting and productive school year. Have a wonderful summer holiday and see you next term!
So, as Mr Frank Sinatra once famously sang, "And now, the end is near, and so I face the final curtain". Despite the tears, the jeers, the highs and the lows; it is time for our Year 6's to leave our Hillborough nest and continue their metaphorical (and literal) journey onto higher plains (secondary school).
Our final summer term as HJS students; how did it go you wonder?! Incredibly well, thank you for asking! We had our puppet performances, our end of year production, and sandwiched between these two gigantic projects we received our fantastic SAT's results.
As we approach our final few days, we are busy preparing for our leavers assembly, which we hope will wow all the parents and family members in attendance!
Though already said in many student end of year reports, we are very proud of most pupils in this Year 6 cohort. They have worked hard and represented the school in a way they should be very proud of. We wish them the best of luck as they head to secondary education!
Have an amazing summer,
The Year 6 Team
Our uniform shop has been a big success and we would like to thank you all for your very generous donations. These will be used to fund our food share which we will hold over the coming winter months. To encourage our sustainable ethos we welcome back any carrier bags given out and these can be handed into reception.
We will be most grateful for donations of no longer needed school uniform. This can be used but well loved and will restock our supplies. Thank you so much.
We would also like to take this opportunity to wish all the current year 6 pupils the best with their future endeavours at the various High Schools. Work hard and try your best and you will all shine in your own way. Change can be tough but so are you.
Enjoy your Summer
